MDI ANNOUNCES REFURBISH OF CRT DISPLAYS TO NEW FLAT PANEL

February 17, 2005, Las Vegas, Nevada: MDI of Las Vegas, Nevada, has developed a process to refurbish legacy CRT Simulation Instrumentation for upgrade to state-of-the-art Flat Panel Display.

"There are a lot of CRT’s nearing the end of their useful life and replacing them is an expensive proposition," said company president Char Bugna. "With our new process for refurbishment, our customers can save up to 50% on the cost of a new display."

Much of the savings come from reusing the box and bezel, two of the costlier custom elements for simulation instruments, explains company sales manager Chris Vivian. "By refurbishing the originals instead of having to duplicate them, the savings can be passed along in reduced pricing to our customers."

The CRT and the electronics are discarded to be replaced by the custom-sized Flat Panel Display incorporating state-of-the-art electronics and controller software.

"This actually makes the refurbished units better than the originals," says Mr. Vivian. "The flexibility is enhanced by the new electronics. In the illustration, we see the legacy BNC video connectors have been supplemented with a sub-miniature DB-9S HD-15 connector. The display can be used with a wider variety of control systems than the legacy unit."

Most of MDI’s business currently comes from new instrumentation, but the company expects refurbishment will increase greatly as the benefits become known and the older instrumentation in the field reaches the end of useful life.

"We expect an increasing part of our business will be dedicated to refurbishment," says Ms. Bugna. "Once we’ve cleaned up the box and bezel and installed the new electronics, it can be difficult to tell a refurbished display from a new one—at least until you look at the price."

MDI is a Native American woman-owned business in application for 8(a) Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) status. The company’s team has more than fifty years experience in Military and Commercial Simulation Display technology.
